SolarWatch 2026.19 introduces the Solar Eclipse Catalog — a comprehensive eclipse tracking experience that puts 200 years of solar eclipse data in your pocket. From historical eclipses to events centuries in the future, every solar eclipse from 2000 through 2200 is now available to explore, plan for, and experience live.
Eclipse Catalog: 200 Years of Solar Eclipses
The catalog includes every solar eclipse from 2000 to 2200 — 98 preprocessed events spanning total, annular, partial, and hybrid eclipses. Each event is built from NASA-sourced Besselian elements, so you can browse and plan from anywhere.
For each eclipse, you get:
- Eclipse type — Total, annular, partial, or hybrid
- Date and time of greatest eclipse
- Magnitude and gamma values
- Saros series and catalog number
- Obscuration percentage for your saved locations
Interactive Eclipse Map
Explore each eclipse on a zoomable map powered by Mapbox. The map shows:
- Central path with northern and southern limits
- Obscuration bands showing coverage percentages at a glance
- Start and end points of the eclipse path
- Greatest eclipse location highlighted
Tap anywhere along the path to instantly calculate local circumstances for that exact location.
Local Circumstances Calculator
Know exactly what you'll see from any point on Earth:
- Contact times — C1 (first contact), C2 (second contact), maximum eclipse, C3 (third contact), C4 (fourth contact)
- Magnitude — How much of the sun's diameter is covered
- Obscuration — Percentage of the sun's area covered
- Sun altitude and azimuth at maximum eclipse
All calculations happen on-device using NASA-derived Besselian elements — no network required.
Eclipse Countdown Widgets
Add the eclipse countdown widget to your iOS Home Screen or Lock Screen. The widget shows:
- Days until the next eclipse visible from your location
- Eclipse type and date
- Magnitude preview with the max-eclipse visual marker
watchOS complications also show eclipse countdown on your wrist.
Live Shadow Tracking
During an active eclipse, switch to live mode to track the moon's shadow in real time:
- Real-time shadow position on the map
- Shadow speed in km/h
- Distance to the centerline
- Time until (or through) totality or annularity
- Current local eclipse circumstances updated live
